Q-Tip
Posted by boris | Filed under Records
I’m lukewarm about the new Q-Tip album. I really want to like it, I was disappointed by Amplified (except for Vibrant Thing), and of course love love love Tribe. Danny Noonan and actual Danny both love this album. It just seems so dated, like I’m at the Music Box on Avenue B circa 1997. What am I missing? And consider whether your argument will be more persuasive if you’re not high. You know who you are.

January 22nd, 2009 at 12:26 pmNo way Boris! Its BECAUSE this album sounds like the sequel to Stakes Is High that i love it! Now i never was a Tribe fan, but I have to give Q-tip credit in making a lp that sounds like its from the mid 90’s. Its what He does best. You don’t ask babe ruth to bunt, if you do what you get is the new common lp. and really, who wants that?

January 22nd, 2009 at 1:18 pmI’ve been rocking this album. So, I third the vote. I can’t say it’s a complete throwback to old hip-hop, but more of a 90’s R&B vibe that I dig. Keep in mind, this also comes from a fan of Mark Morrison “Return of the Mack” and SWV.

January 25th, 2009 at 10:03 pmI was just hoping for something more fresh. In both senses of the word. But I’m going to give it another chance. Look, I like Jodeci so the bar is not that high for me in terms of 90s R&B throwbacks.
